"For in Him we live and move and have our being" (Acts 17:28)

Sing Servant

EsterStars
by Eleanor van der Merwe

"Go gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night and day. I and my maids will fast as you do."
Esther 4:16

Arabian nights. A dream palace, palm trees. Colourful carpets, jewels, the fragrance of perfumes. The queen is in the harem. Her seven maids fuss about her. Suddenly a eunuch gives a sign. One of the maids bows, then whispers to the queen, "Mordechai says all the Jews are going to be killed."

The soap-bubble pops. Reality has to be dealt with. This is why she has become queen. The Jews in the city will fast, but who will stand with her in the citadel? Her maids love her, adore her. They will, and the eunuchs. Victory!

In embroidered garments she goes to the king. Her maids follow her. With joy and gladness they enter the palace of the king.

Mary Miriam
by Eleanor van der Merwe

"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said. And Mary said: "My soul praises the LORD for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant."    Luke 1:38,46,48

Can anything good come out of Nazareth? Why did God choose her? Nobody knows. God chose her because that was His choice. He is God.

A very ordinary Jewish girl, living a small town life. Travelling a bit. Wise. She treasures up everything and ponders it in her heart. Beautifully she sings God's high praises. Blessed is she who has believed that what the LORD has said to her will be accomplished.

A woman in the crowd says to Jesus, " Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you." He replies, " Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it."
