Casting About

I must, brothers and sisters, apologize for my absence, though you should be aware that I was out in the world practicing to be more like our Savior, Jesus Christ. I feel that I have been called to emulate His life on this earth, and though I fall short of the task, I have no wish to be judged as having refused the calling.

Rather than risk being narrow minded, I am trying to learn ALL of His life better, and I have been trying to study certain activities in order that I might gain a clear understanding of His impact on believers in this world. This is not going a fast as one might think, even though I have spent much time in study and practice. As a matter of fact, things were going well until I got to the part where Jesus was a fisherman. The Lord knows where I am, and I am sure that His grace is with me regardless of how slow I am. It's just that the "Fisherman" part is taking longer than I thought to perfect. Still, I try.

If you have received the call, it will be necessary to " cast about " in order to discover the most effective method to reach your target. Casting is like praying in that it is not always a good idea to just "chuck it" out there and watch where it lands. It needs to be directed to be really effective. Not everyone is able to be effective right away, and you might find that a good source of instruction to be a qualified elder. Another thing to consider is that a sloppy cast might end up spooking the fish. When one prays OR casts, the object is not to cause a problem with the fish OR the brethren, but rather, to eliminate or prevent a problem. Keep in mind that there are times that one prays just to make a good cast, and now and then you might need to pray to God to save a cast that you just made. The again there are those who need to pray in order to cast at all.

On the flip side, it is good idea to give a prayer when one makes a successful cast. And if that cast should result in bringing an errant fish to hand, that also warrants letting our Heavenly Father know that you are thankful. And, if it is a REALLY large fish, well, I am sure that you get my drift (actually, the drift thing is going to be part of another article). As you might be able to surmise at this point, Casting and Praying is something that you might could be doing continuously and unceasingly.
