Edibles for the Soul
Mirror, mirror on the wall ...
I know you know the story of the wicked witch in the famous tale of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. This woman had a big problem with being vain! NOT, only was she vain, she was a very nasty person on the inside. You probably know some individuals just like her who concentrate solely on their looks ... from their hair style all the way down to the designer shoes on their feet. Unfortunately, they may "look" good on the outside, but they are seriously messed up on the inside. Eventually the mess leaks to the outside and the mirror definitely won't tell a lie.
I'm not a talk show person, but I do occasionally watch Oprah Winfrey. This season she has emphasized a "Change Your Life" theme. Oprah even has a segment that focuses on "Remembering Your Spirit." Many experts have come on the show with various books and advice offering comfort to the masses who are genuinely unhappy with who they are inside. Many of the guests talked about the great performances they have played as "good mother, devoted wife, superwoman, etc" all the while they felt something missing. I was really touched by the changes individuals went through on the show. But, I began questioning whether the experts really helped them. Practicing simple exercises or techniques seemed to only temporarily solve the problem.
In May of 1999, I received a special invitation. I was asked to speak at graduation program at my hometown church. I thought about refusing because I'm not that much of a talker, but an urge deep within told me to accept. After I began writing the speech, I knew why it was important for me to deliver it. Ten years ago, I sat in the same place where the 1999 graduating class sat. During these ten years, I have undergone a spiritual revolution. God was giving me an opportunity to share my testimony as well as present some things I wish I had known "back in the day."
There were seven principles that I received from the Holy Spirit to share with the young people as well as the congregation. In the "Mirror, Mirror" series of edibles,I will share those principles with you. I pray this series of edibles encourages you to take a look in the "spiritual" mirror ... to really examine who God created you to be.
